Emergency Room vs. Urgent Care Center: It Pays to Know the Difference
For many of us, the phrase emergency room is one and the same with immediate medical care. Hospital emergency rooms are filled with patients who suffer from colds, the flu and other urgent illness or injury seeking immediate medical attention. Westfield Urgent Care can treat many of these urgent illness or injury without the expense, frustration and wait of an emergency room visit. Westfield Urgent Care is open seven days a week, with walk-in’s/no appointments required, it couldn’t be easier!
Urgent Care Defined
Westfield Urgent Care defines an urgent condition as an illness or injury that not likely to cause further disability or death if not treated immediately, but requires professional attention to prevent it from developing into a greater threat. Conditions that can be treated in the Westfield Urgent Care center:
- Cold
- Flu
- Sprains
- Strains
- Insect bites
- Rashes
- Fractures
- Lacerations
- Eye injuries
- Abdominal pain
- Respiratory infections
- Sinusitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of a sinus)
- Sore throats
- Ear and eye conditions such as earache, drainage from the eye and pink eye
- Simple asthma care, such as wheezing (Note: Emergency care is best for those who have difficulty breathing as a result of asthma.)

Emergent Care Defined
Emergency room care is needed in some Circumstances. An emergent medical condition is any medical condition, manifesting itself by acute symptoms severe enough that could reasonably be expected to cause immediate harm, or be threatening to life, limb, or vision.
